Telecom New Zealand is planning to commence ADSL2+ from June 2006 to provide Next-Generation Broadband (NGB) services. The NGB services comprise high-speed broadband services capable of providing download speeds of 24Mbps.

Matt Crockett, general manager of Telecom, said that the company's network transformation is worth $1.4 billion. He said that the company has formed a partnership with Alcatel to improve consumer and business broadband services by establishing its new telecom infrastructure foundation. The new infrastructure would facilitate provision of homebased video calling services on handsets and broadband Internet Protocol (IP) television.
