FED: Holiday road toll rises to 36
A motorist was killed in a fiery car crash at Ballarat in eastern Victoria overnight,pushing the state's holiday road toll to 13 and the national total to 36.
Senior Constable WAYNE WILSON says the driver, believed to be a man, lost control ofhis car on the Western By-Pass at about 2.15am (AEDT) and hit a concret pylon.
He says the force of the impact broke up the car and the passenger section continuedon about 30 metres past the pylon.
The motor was torn away and the car burst into flames.
Victoria has recorded the highest number of road fatalities so far this holiday period of 13.
Queensland has recorded nine deaths, South Australia seven, New South Wales six andWestern Australia one. Tasmania, the ACT and the Northern Territory remain fatality-free.
