WA: Police investigate crash that kills mother and two children

By Tim Clarke

PERTH, April 21 AAP - The cause of an horrific traffic accident in Western Australia
that killed a mother and her two children is still being investigated, police said.

WA Police this afternoon released the names of the woman and two youngsters killed
when a Holden Jackaroo slammed into a tree in Coolgardie, near the Goldfields town of
Kalgoorlie, yesterday evening.

They were 39 year-old Noelene Anne James, her 10 year-old daughter Lucy May and eight-year-old
son Nicholas Reginald.

Three more of Mrs James' children were injured in the crash at around 1715 WST yesterday
afternoon, and were initially taken to hospital in Kalgoorlie.

Kalgoorlie Hospital officials have not released any details of their condition, but
police had earlier said the children were expected to make a full recovery.

A WA Police spokesman said that crash investigators had some idea of what caused the
four-wheel drive vehicle to veer off the road into the tree, but had not confirmed the
reasons.

"The investigation is not really going to go anywhere, other than to find out what
caused the accident. We do have an idea what caused it, but investigations are still continuing,"

the spokesman said.

Earlier reports had said the 4WD, which was travelling on the Great Eastern Highway
about six kilometres west of Coolgardie, went to the wrong side of the road after touching
gravel that lined the bitumen.
